Brewing Guide
How to brew your perfect cup.
Simple, forgiving and beautiful. Here is how we brew our flowers at home.
Blue Bloom
নীল অপরাজিতা
- 4–5 dried flowers per cup
- Hot water, just off the boil (about 90–95°C)
- Steep 5–7 minutes, until deep blue
- Add a squeeze of lemon and watch it turn violet
Ruby Glow
রাঙা রোজেলা
- 3–4 dried calyces per cup
- Hot water, just off the boil
- Steep 5–7 minutes for a bright ruby cup
- Tart and fruity; add honey if you like it sweeter
Crimson Joba
রক্তিম জবা
- 4–5 dried petals per cup
- Hot water, just off the boil
- Steep 5 minutes for a gentle, floral cup
- A little lemon makes the colour glow brighter
Iced tea
Brew double strength (twice the flowers in the same amount of water), let it cool, then pour over a full glass of ice. Add honey or lemon to taste just before serving.
The colour trick
Butterfly pea and joba are naturally sensitive to acidity. Add a few drops of lemon or lime and the colour shifts in your cup: blue to violet, red to a brighter crimson. Nothing is added; it is the flower itself.
Blue latte
Steep 6–8 Blue Bloom flowers in a little hot water to make a strong blue tea. Pour over ice and cold milk with a little honey. Find the full recipe and video on our home page.
Tips
- The flowers do not turn bitter if you steep a little longer, so do not worry about timing.
- You can steep the same flowers a second time for a lighter cup.
- Store the box closed, in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, to keep the colour bright.
